How to Get Stickers Off Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is an alloy of at least 92.5 percent pure silver and another metal, such as copper or nickel. Stick-on price tags can be difficult to remove from sterling silver and often leave residue behind. Because sterling silver is soft, it scratches easily. To prevent surface damage and scratches to its delicate surface, never put sterling silver in a dishwasher or polish it with baking soda, toothpaste or other abrasive substances.

Blow-dryer
91 percent isopropyl alcohol
Cotton balls
Multi-surface cleaner with vinegar
Silver polish
Cellulose sponge
Soft cotton towel

Instructions

  Set the blow-dryer to low heat and warm the sticker area.

  Peel off the sticker slowly. Don't scratch it with your fingernail or any other object. Let the silver cool completely.

  Dip a cotton ball in alcohol and gently rub the sticker area to remove as much residue as possible. Use a back and forth motion rather than circular to prevent tiny scratches.

  Spray a cotton ball with the multi-surface cleaner containing vinegar. Gently rub the sticker area to remove any remaining residue.

  Remove traces of the alcohol, cleaner and fingerprints. Rinse the sterling silver piece in warm water. Apply a small amount of silver polish to a cellulose sponge and rub it back and forth on the piece. Rinse the piece thoroughly in warm water and dry with a clean cotton towel.
