How to Stop a Gas Oven From Leaking Hot Air

Gas ovens rely on the circulation of air to heat efficiently and cook food evenly. Because of this, a gas oven will leak hot air more than an electric oven. Some amount of leakage is inevitable, and there isn’t much you can do to prevent it. You can limit the leakage, however, by replacing the seal.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the oven and let it cool completely. Open the oven so you can access the rubber door seal around the oven frame.

    • 2

Pull off the rubber seal with your fingers. The rubber seal has several tines that squeeze together and fit through small holes in the oven frame and then separate to hold the rubber in place. If the rubber seal is old and in poor condition, it will pull easily from the oven frame. If is doesn’t pull off easily, you may need to pinch the tines together and pull the sections out.

    • 3

Clean the oven frame thoroughly with all-purpose cleaner and an old toothbrush. Dirt and grease can build up behind the rubber seal. Wipe the area with a paper towel and let it dry completely.

Press the new rubber seal into the oven frame. Press each tine into the corresponding slot until it snaps into place.
