How to Remove Frosting From Tempered Glass

Frosted tempered glass provides privacy without eliminating the natural light that windows allow into your home. If the frosting was etched into the glass, you can't remove it unless you shave off the frosted layer of glass, which can easily damage fragile tempered glass. However, if the frosting was applied with a film or sprayed on the tempered glass, you can remove it with relative ease using inexpensive items.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Open windows near the frosted glass to allow proper ventilation. Wear chemical-resistant rubber gloves to protect your hands from skin irritation. Pour a small amount of high-grade acetone in a small, plastic container.

    • 2

Dampen a rag in the high-grade acetone and carefully scrub the sprayed frosting off the glass. For frosted film, the acetone will dissolve the adhesive allowing you to easily peel the film off the glass. If you meet resistance, scrape the frosted film gently with a plastic paint scraper.

    • 3

Apply light pressure while scrubbing the frosting off the glass. Dampen the rag with the acetone when it becomes dry and continue scrubbing while lightly applying pressure until you have removed all traces of the frosting.

Rinse the glass with a clean rag dampened in cool water. Wash the glass as you normally would with glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
