A sewing machine is a powerful household tool that simplifies home projects. The Husqvarna 6240 sewing machine is suited to most fabrics from light, sheer materials to heavy, tight-knit materials, allowing you to sew clothing, drapes and fabric crafts with ease. Any sewing machine, if properly operated, will provide you with years of service, but if you rush to use it without understanding how to properly set it up and operate it, you can expect to encounter hefty repair bills. Take the time to understand the specifics of the Husqvarna 6240 and enjoy its convenience for longer.

Instructions

  1. Setup

    • 1

Unpack the sewing machine by placing it on a table with the mark on the top of the cover facing you. Remove the cover and take out the extension table and foot pedal.

    • 2

Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet to provide a power source.

    • 3

Place the foot pedal on the ground and plug the foot pedal cord into the back of the sewing machine.

    • 4

Change the needle, if needed, by loosening the needle clamp screw -- located above the needle -- and pulling the needle downward. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing away from you and push it upward as far as it will go; tighten the screw to hold the new needle in place.

    • 5

Thread the lower thread by placing the bobbin of thread, with the round mark facing up, into the bobbin case. Place the bobbin case on the spindle in the shuttle, located under the lower arm of the machine.

    • 6

Thread the upper thread by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel -- located on the right side of the machine -- toward you until the needle is raised. Set the spool of thread on the top spool pin, located on the left of the machine. Pull the thread behind the thread guide located on the back, left side of the machine. Pull the thread between the tension discs on the front of the machine and around the thread guide on the front of the machine. Pull the thread from left to right on the thread take-up lever located above the thread guide. Pull the thread through the guide coil located on the lower part of the front arm and behind the thread guide located above the needle. Then pull the thread through the needle's eye.

    Operation

    • 7

Turn on the machine's light by flicking the switch underneath the machine's arm.

    • 8

Adjust the power gear, located on the right side of the machine. Push it inward to sew at full speed or pull it out to sew at one-fifth of the speed.

    • 9

Lift the presser bar handle at the back of the machine to raise the machine's foot and move it down to lower the foot. The foot should be raised to place fabric on the machine and lowered to hold the fabric in place before sewing.

    • 10

Press down on the pedal, with your foot, starting gently and gradually pressing down more to increase the speed of the stitch. Guide your fabric as it is pulled under the needle, taking care that it does not catch.
