Wash your silverware tray with warm soapy water and dish detergent to remove dirt and germs, and allow it to dry thoroughly.
Line a kitchen drawer close to your counter top and cooking space with drawer lining paper. This protects the wood from scratches that can occur if the silverware tray slides when you open and close the drawer.
Place the silverware tray into the drawer so that the horizontal section is at the top of your drawer. Wash and dry the silverware to prevent rusting.
Put knives, forks, soup spoons and teaspoons in their own vertical sections within the tray. Place cutlery or serving utensils in the horizontal section at the top of the tray. Use remaining sections of the tray to hold small utensils such as can openers, bottle openers, measuring spoons, paring knives and zesters.
Remove the tray from the drawer when entertaining. Place it in an easy-to-reach spot near plates and food so guests can help themselves. Replace utensils that are not flatware from the horizontal section with napkins or wet naps.
