Shoe Rack Instructions

Shoe racks work well for families with lots of members and for households that host a lot of guests. They help to keep your home organized and are also a great aid for drying winter boots. Shoe racks are typically inexpensive to buy, but even cheaper to build. They feature a simple design, which makes them easy and quick to construct. In fact, you can build your own shoe rack in less than an hour with very little woodworking knowledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your 34-inch board flat and draw two lines across the board in pencil. The two lines must be parallel with the 34-inch edges, placed 2 inches away from each 34-inch edge. The lines will be 6 inches apart.

    • 2

Draw eight lines across the board--also in pencil--so that they are perpendicular to the first two lines. The lines should be spaced 4 inches apart, with the two outside lines placed 1 inch away from the 10-inch edges.

    • 3

Drill 16 holes, 1 inch in diameter and depth, where the lines intersect. Erase your pencil markings.

    • 4

Place all of the 8-inch dowels in one row of holes, and the 14-inch dowels in the other role of holes. You can fasten the dowels in place either by placing a small amount of wood glue in each drilled hole before inserting the dowels, or by using your wood screws. Insert the screws through the bottom of the board and into the dowels. The longer dowels are meant for boots, while the shorter dowels are meant for shoes and slippers. To use, slip the inside of the shoes over the dowels to store your footwear.
