If you're short on square footage, opt for a vertical solution. You may not be able to fit three separate bins side-by-side anywhere in your kitchen, but stacked bins have a small enough footprint to squeeze into even the smallest spaces. While you'll find an abundance of vertically stacked units designed specifically for collecting recycling on the market, don't overlook a storage solution that isn't made just for recycling. A laundry cart or office organizer might be a cheaper, more attractive option.
If your kitchen cabinetry includes a lower corner cabinet equipped with a Lazy Susan, outfit it with small bins. Since corner cabinets are often underutilized, it's unlikely that you'll miss keeping this space available for anything else.
Like a corner cabinet, a deep lower drawer often becomes a cluttered storage space for the usual kitchen gear. If you can relocate those items that currently reside in such a space, you can turn it into a convenient spot for all of your recycling. Place shallow plastic bins in the drawer to separate recyclable waste and transfer to the garage as they fill up.
If extra floor space isn't an issue in your kitchen, consider purchasing a rolling cart equipped with drawers or a shelf to accommodate bins underneath. This option not only provides space for recycling, but an extra work surface, as well. Another option that does double-duty is a storage bench with a flip-up lid. Place small bins inside and you won't even know they're there. Plus, you gain extra seating.
Kitchen recycling bins don't have to be bins at all. Mount hooks on the wall and hang attractive laundry bags to collect your recycling. Laundry bags are durable and less bulky than bins when the time comes to carry them outside. You can toss them in the wash when they get dirty.
