How to Store Pots & Pans in Drawers

Pots and pans are attractive when new, but they will lose their non-stick coating and develop scratches over time if they are not well maintained. This applies to high-quality brands as well. Proper storage involves covering pots and pans with protective materials and placing them in areas that have been specially designed to hold them, such as a deep kitchen drawer. When you care for your pots and pans well, you can expect them to last as long as the manufacturer promises, if not longer.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the pots-and-pans drawer with a damp cloth and let it dry. Measure the bottom of the drawer and cut self-adhesive paper to fit. Line the drawer with the paper. You may also line the sides of the drawer if you wish.

    • 2

Place a protective material inside each pot and pan. This is to protect the finish from scratches. You may already have a large variety of material that you can use, such as sheets of paper towels, bubble wrap, large coffee filters and old newspapers.

    • 3

Stack the pots and pans in threes inside other pots or pans that are one size or two sizes bigger. For instance, place the smallest pot inside a large pot and place the large pot inside the widest pan. The space in each item further limits the possibility of scratches on the outside finish of the pots and pans.

    • 4

Cover the pot on top of the stack with its cover. Wrap the remaining covers in protective material, if you wish.

    • 5

Place each stack of pots and pans in the drawer. Ensure that there is space around each stack, if possible, to prevent scratches. Arrange the covers neatly in any available space.
