Ways to Become More Organized in My Home

According to ancient Chinese feng shui principles, if you have an organized home, the more the universe will be able to support you in reaching your goals. However, whether you believe in feng shui or not, you should still aim to have an organized home. Being more organized simplifies your life by allowing you to keeping track of things and to help things at home run more smoothly.
  1. Storage Solutions

    • Finding different ways to store things in your home is one way to become more organized. Almost anything that's in your home can be organized with storage solutions, from small cosmetics to your gardening tools. You'll find different kinds of storage solutions for your entire home for rooms such as your closet, bathroom, kitchen, garage and bathroom. These may include sweater bags, drawer dividers, laundry sorters, tool racks, sink caddies, jewelry trays and storage boxes, bins and crates.

    Space Delegation

    • Homes don't become disorganized overnight. A disorganized home is the result of placing things wherever you wish instead of putting things in the proper places. To become more organized, delegate a specific space for certain things. For example, you might have a cabinet that's only for glassware, a drawer that's only for kitchen towels and a file cabinet in a home office for all your paperwork.

    Decluttering

    • Years and years of buying different things for your home can lead you to have a cluttered home. To be more organized, take the time to declutter your home every so often. Look through your closets and cabinets for things that you may have thrown in without giving them much thought. Throw away anything that you don't need such as expired coupons or old magazines. You might find things that are useful but that you don't need. These things can be set aside for donation or for a yard sale.

    Labeling

    • Another strategy for a more organized home is to label your things. You can buy an inexpensive label maker or simply label with masking tape and a permanent pen or with sticky notes. Labeling things will help you to stay organized so you can keep track of things that you store in boxes or other containers. You might want to label a jar of flour, sugar or coffee. If you recycle, you can label trash cans with recycling labels for paper, glass, plastic and metal. You can pretty much label anything that you need so you'll have an organized home.

    Scheduling

    • Setting a schedule can help to keep you organized in your home in several ways. If you have kids who have different things going on such as after-school or weekend activities, you can keep a calendar to help you keep track of all the things they have to do. You can keep a cleaning schedule to set how often you'd like to clean things in your house such as mopping the floors twice a week or cleaning out the garage once a month. A schedule can help you plan meals for an entire week.
