Place three strong bags or large plastic containers in your kitchen.
Remove tops, metal rings and corks from empty glass bottles and jars. You can leave labels on.
Rinse the bottles and jars in a dishpan of warm water to remove sticky residues. The remains of food, juice, beer or wine in a bottle can attract ants and other pests.
Sort the bottles by color. Most recycling centers have receptacles for green glass, brown glass and clear glass. Unusual colors, such as red or yellow, go with "brown" glass. Use one of the bags for each color. Some centers and most collection services accept mixed glass, which means you do not need to sort the bottles.
Take the bottles to a recycling center, or put them out for curbside collection, once the bags are full and place them in the appropriate receptacles.
