Figure out how many different types of laundry you have. These will be the items that have their own processes for washing and drying. For example, you might have colored laundry that needs to be washed in cold water and hung to dry and colored laundry that can be washed in warm water and put into the dryer. Other types of laundry include whites, bleached whites, socks and underwear towels, linens and delicates.
Get a separate hamper space for each type of laundry you have. You can get separate hampers or rolling storage hampers that offer separate spaces within one unit.
Place the hampers in your laundry area. Put them in order of most likely to fill up first, such as colored laundry, to least likely, such as delicates.
Add another separate hamper, which can usually be smaller than the rest, to your laundry area for items that need to be treated for stains before laundering.
