How to Recycle PVC Pipe in Texas

A hard plastic, PVC can be recycled in many ways in Texas. Because the PVC manufacturing process adds chemicals, this material is not necessarily accepted through municipal recycling streams across all Texas. Once recycled, PVC can be turned into replacement ties for railroads or sound barrier for highways. Make a few phone calls to determine what options are most convenient for you, then take your PVC pipe for recycling or reuse.

Instructions

    • 1

Call your municipal public works department and ask whether your town recycling program accepts PVC. If your town does, recycle the PVC through your local program. If your community doesn't, ask for recommendations of where to take PVC.

    • 2

Call Greenstar Recycling or visit the company's website. Greenstar recycles PVC for a fee. Within Texas, Greenstar has Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Dallas locations. Avangard Innovative, a Houston company, also recycles PVC for a fee.

List PVC pipe in good condition on a building materials exchange, such as Texas's Resource Exchange Network for Eliminating Waste. Those in need of PVC pipe can view your listing and request the material for recycling via reuse.

See if Habitat for Humanity has a ReStore near you, such as the Austin ReStore. The stores accept building materials of good quality, for resale. The proceeds fund Habitat for Humanity projects.
