  1. Stop the Mail at the Source

    • 1

Contact the Direct Marketing Association (see Resources below) and register your name and address with their Mail Preference Service. While DMA doesn't send solicitations, they do provide marketers with a list of people who do not want junk mail.

    • 2

Avoid getting on more mailing lists by asking all new companies with whom you do business to not sell, trade or rent your name or address.

    • 3

Contact the businesses who currently send unwanted mail and ask them to remove your name and address from their mailing list. Also, request that they not sell, trade, rent or otherwise share your contact information.

    • 4

Call 1-888-5OPTOUT or visit www.optoutprescreen.com to opt out of credit card solicitations.

    • 5

Send unwanted mail back to the sender if you see the following phrases on the mail:

      - Change Service Requested

      - Address Service Requested

      - Forwarding Service Requested

      - Return Service Requested

Simply write "Return to Sender" and drop in the mailbox.
