How to Recycle Topsy's Popcorn Containers

Every year around the holidays, popcorn tins begin popping up all over. Topsy's popcorn containers are similar to other tins, but come in sizes ranging from 1 gallon to 6.5 gallons. These containers also have handles on them, making them different from the other ones you find at local retailers. Reuse these tins around your house for everyday solutions or for special occasions. From organization to gift-wrap solutions, you will find a way to integrate these tins into your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Call your local recycling center to ask if they will take the popcorn tin to recycle. If not, reuse it in some way.

    • 2

Wash out the popcorn container before using it for anything. Use a mild dish soap, and wipe it completely dry.

    • 3

Place a small trash-can liner or plastic grocery bag inside the tin to use it as a small wastebasket for the office, bedroom or bathroom.

    • 4

Use a larger tin to hold animal food. If you have dogs, cats or birds, put the animal's food into the container. The wide opening makes it easy to get the food out.

    • 5

Re-gift any size tin. Use it as an alternative to wrapping paper or gift bags. Just place a bow on top and a gift tag for the recipient.

    • 6

Line a larger tin with plastic, folding the plastic over the rim slightly. Place a rubber band around the rim to hold the plastic in place. Fill with ice for a makeshift ice bucket, or use to hold bulk foods, like flour, sugar or rice.

Use a larger tin as a rainy-day solution for your kids. Have it hold craft items, dress-up items or small games that can be used when everyone is stuck inside the house. Or use it to hold smaller toys, like building blocks, and put it into the kids' play room.

Place a smaller tin where you sort your mail, and use it to hold junk mail. Take the junk mail out when you are ready to shred it.

    • 9

Put a few large tins in a row next to where you throw the trash away. Use them to sort items like glass bottles, aluminum cans and plastic bottles that can be taken to the recycling center. Label one with "plastic," one with "aluminum" and with "glass."
