How to String Sun Catchers

Sun catchers are decorative ornaments designed to be hung around the home or in the workplace, usually near a window. Sun catchers are most commonly made out of colored glass or mother-of-pearl, so the surface will reflect the sunshine and create a stunning light display. They come in variety of forms, from simple circular ornaments to more elaborate animal- or flower-shaped designs. Sun catchers are designed for hanging, so stringing them requires following simple steps.

Instructions

A window is the perfect place to hang a sun catcher.

Decide on the area in which you wish to hang your sun catcher. For best results, choose a place that receives a great deal of natural light.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the spot on which you are hanging the sun catcher, such as the top of a window frame, to the height at which where you would like it to hang. Cut a length of string that is double that measurement.

    • 3

Locate the area in which the string is to be inserted in the sun catcher. It should already have a ready-made hole, pin or loop from which to hang the string. Often this is located in the middle top section of the design.

Ensure the knot is tightly tied to prevent unraveling.

Insert the string through the hole or loop in the sun catcher so that there is an additional 4 inches of string emerging from one side of the sun catcher. Tie this end of the string around the other piece of string in a secure knot. Repeat with a second knot.

    • 5

Trim off any excess string with the scissors. The sun catcher is now ready to be hung from the desired area.
