How to Do Packing of Plates

Whether you're moving or you just want to put your plates in storage, you must take care when packing such fragile items. Your plates won't take up much space, but a large number can quickly become very heavy. This is why most moving companies recommend using special "dish pack" boxes, which are made of stronger cardboard and are small to prevent overpacking. When packed carefully, you can be sure that your dishes will arrive at their destination in one piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a soft layer in the bottom of your dish pack box. You can do this with a few layers of bubble wrap or by crumpling up newspaper.

    • 2

Place a plate in the middle of a sheet of newspaper.

    • 3

Fold the corners of the newspaper in to cover the plate.

    • 4

      Set the wrapped plate aside.

    • 5

Repeat the previous two steps, creating a stack of wrapped plates.

    • 6

Place the stack of plates into the box on its side.

    • 7

Repeat until the box is full.

    • 8

Fill in any open spaces with bubble wrap or crumpled newspaper.

    • 9

      Tape the box shut.

    • 10

Write a warning message on the side and top of the box. It should say something like "Warning -- Plates" or "Warning -- Fragile."
