How to Find Mail Fowarding Addresses

If you are trying to send mail to someone who has recently moved, there are several ways you can find the new address. However, you need to be willing to do a little investigating. Because the U.S. Postal Service does not immediately update addresses that have been changed via the service's change of address form, you may need to find alternate routes to the new home of the individual you are looking to track down.

Instructions

    • 1

Call or email the person or friends of the person who moved. This may be the quickest and easiest way to find out the new address.

    • 2

Enter the person's first and last name in the reverse look-up section of the free online phone book Switchboard and click the "Find a Person" tab. Enter the first name, last name, city or ZIP code and state, then press the yellow "Search" button.

Mail a letter to your friend using the old address. In your letter or card, tell your friend you would like to have her new address. If there is a forwarding address for the piece of mail, the U.S. Postal Service will forward the mail to your friend.

File a Freedom of Information Act request form at your local post office. There are certain pieces of information that are public, such as a person's address, if you have a legal reason to request the information.
