How to Recycle Cans in Cocoa, Florida

Cocoa, Florida, lies southwest of Cape Canaveral on the eastern side of Florida. The town of Cocoa provides dumpsters for residents for recycling. Residents do not need to sort their recycling to take advantage of the curbside pickup. Cocoa lies within Brevard County, which provides a hazardous waste collection site where people can drop off cans containing paint or chemicals. The county operates a program called "Drop and Swap," in which people can bring in usable paint, yard chemicals or other products in cans to share with others who may need them. A local painting company reprocesses the paint and twice a year. The hazardous waste site makes the paint available to the public at no charge.

Instructions

  1. Recycling At Home

    • 1

Find a place to store the cans. Some people place a different color garbage can next to the wastebasket in the kitchen to help everyone identify the right container for cans.

    • 2

Rinse food cans before throwing them in the recycling receptacle to cut down on the odors.

    • 3

Deposit the cans in the recycling bin outdoors when the recycling receptacle is full, or before the recycling pickup. If you use plastic bags in your recycling container, remove the bag after you put the contents into the recycling bin. The city of Cocoa does not recycle plastic bags.
