Spread a layer of newspaper or an old towel, sheet or similar object across your work surface to protect the area from damage. If you plan to glue on your dry-erase board magnets, this is particularly important as glue may damage the finish of your work area.
Lay your dry-erase board, right-side down, on your work area surface. Assemble your magnets, cleaning agents and glue.
Clean the back of the dry erase board, using a soft, clean cloth and an ammonia-based cleaner such as glass cleaner. Spray the surface lightly and scrub any dirt, oil and debris off the back of your board; anything left on the surface may prevent your magnets from sticking well. Dry well when clean.
Measure the dimensions of the dry-erase board to determine the size of adhesive-backed magnet roll material you need. Cut to size using craft scissors. Alternatively, mark the placement of smaller magnets. Space small magnets out equally, using at least one per corner of the board, and at least one in the center.
Remove the backing from self-adhering magnets and carefully secure them to the back of your dry-erase board, aligning with any placement marks made. Heat a glue gun if using glue-on magnets. Apply a drop of hot glue to the back of each magnet and stick into place as calculated.
Hold your dry-erase board in place against your refrigerator and slowly release to determine if the board will remain in place. If the board wants to slide or fall, repeat the steps to attach more magnets until the board is secure against your refrigerator.
Clean the back of your dry-erase board again to remove any adhesive or stray hot glue strands. Stick your new dry-erase board to your refrigerator and clean up your work area to finish.
