Velcro hook and loop is available in black and white. This Velcro comes in two separate strips. One strip has hook shaped fibers and the other strip has fibers with a tiny loop on the end. When they are pressed together they become attached. These strips can be glued or sewed onto items as closures. When purchasing them from craft and fabric shops each strip is cut separately. The widest strip made is 4 inches. It is purchased in 25-yard rolls for commercial or industrial use. Ready made one-piece hook and loop strips can be purchased where the hook fibers are on one side and the loop fibers on the other. These are called "self-gripping straps." Hook and loop tape and strips are used over and over.
Velcro dots are available in beige and black. These are purchased in sets or as a roll. Dots are used as closures for smaller items such as wallets and purses. They are made in a variety of sizes and are sometimes referred to as "coin dots." They are often used on the bottoms of electronic pieces such as DVD players or DVD external drives to avoid scratching surfaces. Coin-size pieces can be cut from larger strips when necessary.
Sew-on Velcro comes in a variety of colors. Beige, black, blue, green, gray, pink, red, yellow and white are the basic colors. Green, pink, orange and yellow are also available as neon colors. Sew-on Velcro can be purchased in packages or by the foot or yard at fabric shops. The widths available are 5/8 inches, 3/4 inches, 1 inch, 1.5 inches, and 2 and 4 inches. It is used in creating some clothing, luggage, backpacks, bags and purses.
Peel and stick Velcro is available at craft shops, fabric stores and most office supply stores. It can be purchased in all the basic colors and some neon shades. The widths for peel and stick Velcro are 1 inch, 1.5 inches, and 2 and 4 inches. This Velcro is used in a similar way as the sew-on but on items that cannot be sewed. Picture frames and posters can be hung with strips or small sections of peel and stick Velcro.
