DIY Ways to Hang Jewelry

Jewelry often gets tangled, lost, tarnished or broken when not organized properly. A variety of storage options are available in stores, but you can save money and use creativity to create original hanging displays. Showcase your accessories in the open instead of a drawer, and you're more likely to wear them.
  1. Earring Displays

    • Select a decorative frame to proudly display your earring collection. Remove the backing and glass from the frame. Measure and cut plastic screening or wire mesh, available at craft or hardware stores, to fit inside the frame. Staple the screening to the back of the frame. Hang the frame on the wall. Earrings can be easily stored by pushing the posts through the screen. For easy removal of stud earrings, prop the frame on a table instead of hanging.

Hanging ribbon or fabric is another an inexpensive way to showcase earrings. Select a color and texture that complements the room decor. Cut fabric into 2-inch thick strips. Choose a decorative hanger and tie the strips of ribbon or fabric to the hanger. Secure hanger to the wall with a nail or hook. For delicate earrings, use a sharp object to make holes in the fabric before hanging the earrings.

For a fast and easy display, take any decorative vase and hang french-hook earrings from the rim. To add texture or color to a clear vase, place stones, sea glass or sand in the bottom.

    Necklace Displays

    • Bring nature indoors by taking a few branches from a tree and adding them to a wide-mouthed vase. Spray-paint the branches for a colorful effect that matches your decor. Anchor the branches into the vase with sand, dirt or rocks. Hang delicate necklaces from the branches.

Purchase a peg board from a home supply or hardware store to display heavy necklaces. Have the board cut to your specifications. Select hooks and backings that fit inside the holes. Hang on a wall or the back of a door to display your necklace collection.

    Bracelets

    • Hang clasp and closed bracelets quickly and easily using a peg or hook coat hanger attached to the wall. Spray-paint the coat hanger a color you desire. Hang multiple coat hangers horizontally to one another to display a large collection.

Display numerous bracelets using a recycled cardboard paper towel roll. Wrap the paper towel roll in decorative fabric and secure using a hot-glue gun. String a long piece of ribbon through the roll and tie a loop on each end of the ribbon. Secure two hooks to the wall. Add bracelets to the paper towel roll and hang one ribbon loop on each hook. Easily remove the ribbon from the hooks to add or change bracelets.

    Rings, Pins and Brooches

    • Hang a wooden shelf on the wall and line with small dishes, teacups or saucers to hold rings, pins and brooches. For an inexpensive display, shop at thrift stores for used shelving and kitchenware. Mix and match colors or choose items in various shades of one color.

Spray-paint the carton for an eye-catching display. Secure it to the wall horizontally, so that the small cups in the carton are upright. Or, place it on a shelf. Organize small jewelry items in each pocket of the egg carton.
