How to Hang a Magna Strip on a Formica Wall

Magnetic strips are an effective way to hang metal kitchen tools such as knives, especially in small kitchens. The strips take advantage of vertical wall space and keep items like knife blocks off your counters. Don't be discouraged if you have a Formica wall or backsplash in your kitchen. You can still hang a magnetic strip on Formica. Formica is a brand of laminate. It is important to pre-drill the laminate so that the screws will enter the wall without chipping or cracking the wall.

Instructions

  Place the magnetic strip against the wall in the desired spot. Lay a level across the top of the magnetic strip. Adjust the position of the strip so that is it level on the wall.

  Mark the mounting holes in the magnetic strip onto the wall with a pencil. Set the magnetic strip aside. Drill a 1/4-inch deep hole in the center of each marked mounting hole using a drill and 1/16-inch drill bit.

  Hold the magnetic strip against the wall so that the mounting holes are aligned with the drilled holes in the wall. Drive the screws included with the strip into the wall using a screw gun to fasten it to the wall.
