Instructions on How to Build a Mobile Clothes Rack

Organize wardrobes and wheel them from closet to closet with a mobile clothes rack. Make a simple mobile clothes rack using PVC pipe. Connect the pipes together using various PVC joints and PVC glue. Mount a set of wheels to the bottom of the clothes rack for mobility. Clothing racks like this are not complicated or time-consuming to build. They will not require more than a couple hours spent in a workshop.

4 PVC pipes, 1 1/2-by-14 inches
4 PVC T-joints, 1 1/2-inch
2 PVC pipes, 1 1/2-by-8 inches
2 PVC pipes, 1 1/2-by-60 inches
2 PVC pipes, 1 1/2-by-50 inches
2 PVC elbows, 1 1/2-inch
PVC glue
Drill
Drill bit, 1/4 inch
4 swivel wheels, with 1/4-inch threaded caster
4 nuts, 1/4 inch

Instructions

  Glue one end of each 14-inch pipe into the top two holes of two T-joints. Glue an 8-inch pipe into the base hole of each T-joint and glue the other end of the 8-inch pipes into the top holes of the last two T-joints. Position the base hole of the T-joints at right angles to the aligned 14-inch pipes.

  Glue each end of one 60-inch pipe into the base holes of the two T-joints. This connects the feet to your clothes rack. Glue the 50-inch pipes into the two open holes left by the two T-joints.

  Insert the ends of the last 60-inch pipe into the elbows. Position the elbows so they bend in the same direction. Glue the elbows on the 60-inch pipe in this position.

  Glue the ends of the 50-inch pipes into the elbows. This is the top of your clothes rack where you will hang clothes from.

  Drill a 1/4-inch hole through each 14-inch pipe. Position each hole 1 inch away from the ends of the pipe that are not glued in the T-joints so the holes are parallel with the 50-inch pipes.

  Insert the caster on the wheels through the 1/4-inch holes so they're on the bottom of the rack, and screw a nut on each caster. Tighten the nuts using your wrench.
