How to Pack a Lampshade

When you pack your lampshade for transport, of course you expect it to arrive in good shape at your destination. Stuffing the lampshade in a box that's too small or cramming it together with other items is a mistake. Unfortunately, improperly packed lampshades can become crushed or dented beyond repair, so it's important for you to pack the shade in a way that will preserve its original condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Acquire a cardboard box that's wide enough for the lampshade to slide into, but not so big that it will bang around during transport. Ideally, the box should be a little larger than the shade.

    • 2

Crumple up some newspaper and layer it in the bottom of the box to create a cushion. If the box is just a bit larger than the shade, don't place the crumpled paper in the box, because of space limitations.

    • 3

Place four or five sheets of newspaper on top of the open box. Layer the sheets so the entire mouth of the box is covered. The newspaper sheets will drape over the edge.

    • 4

Turn the lampshade upside down and center it gently on top of the newspapers so it will easily fit into the box. Gently guide the lampshade into the box until it reaches the bottom. The newspaper will drape around the sides as the shade descends into the box.

Close the box lid and tape it to secure it. Mark the box with arrows and the words "This End Up," so movers keep the box upright during transport, lessening the chance of damaging the shade.
