How to Fill a Water Jug With Change

It may appear trash-ready as a plastic recyclable item, but what once quenched your thirst can now quench your bank account with a bit of inventiveness. A plastic water jug makes for a sturdy and cheap piggy bank, creating a home for your spare change and a symbol of monetary savings and future goals. If you want to start saving coinage, begin by reusing a plastic water jug instead of purchasing a new gadget to complete the task.

Empty the water out of the jug. Place the jug upside down to drain it. Allow it to dry. Place the jug on the floor or countertop in a convenient location that is in plain view. This promotes friends and guests to dump their spare coins into the jug when visiting.

Leave the cap off the jug and toss coins into the opening of the jug or cut a rectangular slit in the cap with a straight-blade knife and drop the coins into the jug through the slit.

Write your monetary goal and purpose for saving the change such as "Beer Money" or "College Tuition" on an index card. Tape the index card to the jug as an incentive to continue filling it with coins. Break bills instead of spending change when purchasing an item to fill the jug with change faster.
