Homemade Cable Hiding Solutions

Camouflage

• One of the easiest ways to hide cables is to camouflage them. There are a variety of ways to do this, including painting, clever arranging and purchasing cable-disguising products. Cable guides come in a variety of colors and can easily blend in with the background walls. You can also take the wires outdoors and spray paint them the same color as your walls. Some people even wrap the cables into a circle or other shape and use it as part of the home decor.

Cutting

• One way to hide excess cables is to cut the cables to the exact required length. If you are wary of cutting cables, you can also purchase cables that are the correct length from any electronics store. Once you have cables the correct length, you eliminate much of the cable bulk that gets in the way, which will hide much of the problem. Try to keep the cables straight and pushed against the wall for best results.

Hiding

• There are several ways to hide cables out of sight. One of the most common hiding methods is to place something in front of the cables, such as a piece of furniture, basket or piece of art. You can run cables behind nearly anything, as long as the floor line is hidden. You can also run cables under the carpet or rugs if you must run a cable across a room. Try running cables along baseboards to hide them from view along the walls.

Storage

• Another way to hide cables is to store them inside a box, basket or other storage device. For this to work the best, the boxes should have a hole in the bottom to store the cables and to provide easy access when you need to make an adjustment. You can cut a hole into a plastic or cardboard box and simply place it over the cables to disguise them and hide them from view. You can also place excess cabling inside a low basket, such as an open wicker basket.
