How to Close a Padlock

Padlocks come in a variety of shapes, sizes and durability. You can buy combination padlocks or key-operated locks to protect anything from bicycles to school books or to lock a gate that leads into your home. Protecting your property and belongings with a padlock will keep your mind at ease, knowing that you -- or your belongings -- are safe.

     Hold the open padlock in one hand. Move the end of the U-shaped swivel over the hole in the padlock.

     Push the U-shaped piece into the hole. Keep pushing until you hear it click.

     Pull on the U-shaped piece to make sure it is locked. If it comes out, then you need to try again.
