How to Dispose of a Bottle of Clorox

Clorox is a popular brand name of household chlorine bleach. Bleach is commonly used to clean laundry and disinfect and sterilize objects. Clorox bleach can cause skin allergies and is harmful if inhaled. Precautions must be taken when disposing of this product. If you have an extra bottle of Clorox you no longer have any use for, there are a few methods you can apply to properly dispose of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the Clorox down the drain of your kitchen or bathroom sink. Turn on the water and pour a little at a time to avoid splashing. Leave the water running for a few minutes and splash water around the sink to remove any traces of the bleach.

    • 2

Pour the bleach in the toilet. Flush the toilet before pouring in the Clorox. Place the tip of the Clorox bottle beneath the rim or water and slowly pour the bleach to avoid splashing. Avoid mixing Clorox with toilet cleaners.

    • 3

Give the bottle of Clorox to a friend or family member. They may be able to use it for their laundry or household cleaning needs.

    • 4

Pour the bottle of bleach in a swimming pool if you have one. This will help sanitize the pool water. Make sure the Clorox is the regular unscented kind not the scented kind which contains many chemicals other than chlorine.
