How to Reorganize a Bedroom

Your bedroom should be your oasis, a place to make your own. How you organize it is an important part of making it feel calming and welcoming. Clutter and a lack of flow throughout the space can make using the room unnecessarily difficult. Sometimes a simple reorganization can make all the difference in the look and feel of the space. With a little planning, you can give your room a fresh update that is easy on the budget.

Instructions

    • 1

Discard items that you do not want or donate them to a community center. Bedrooms often suffer from being full of too much stuff. Minimize the amount of items that you need to reorganize to make the process simpler. Kicking the clutter habit can also make you feel more calm.

    • 2

Divide your belongings into categories to determine the best location for each type of item. For example, put your books in one pile, accessories in another, picture frames or artwork in another. Once you determine what you have the most of, decide how you want to arrange these items. Make sure items you use regularly are readily accessible.

    • 3

Clean the space thoroughly before bringing items back into the room. Remove furniture when possible so that you can sweep and mop floors and dust built-ins. Starting off with a clean slate is instrumental in the reorganization process.

Use the teachings of Feng Shui to establish flow in your space. Feng Shui is a Chinese practice you can use to put your room and even your sense of harmony back into balance. Eliminate clutter and balance of five elements -- earth, metal, fire, water and wood -- according to the principles of Feng Shui. Other rules apply to bedrooms, such as the positioning of mirrors and the placement of items in the room.

Apply your organization techniques to your closet, under the beds and dresser drawers. Avoid the temptation to tuck items into these areas to hide them, as this amount of clutter can cause stress and a sense of unbalance. Use built-in closet organizers featuring drawers and racks for hanging clothing instead.
