Things to Put in a Toiletry Basket in a Bathroom

A toiletry basket is a common convenience to include in the guest bathroom when you have friends or family coming to stay. Your guest will appreciate having access to toiletries that she forgot to bring or didn't even consider to pack. You should create a toiletry basket whether you have male or female guests.
  1. Toiletries

    • The most basic items to include in your basket are toiletries that your guests need for basic self care such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, deodorant, mouthwash and breath mints. Don't forget to include bars of soap, lotion or hand cream or a lip moisturizer, especially in the winter months.

    Mishaps

    • Accidents happen, and preparing the basket to accommodate a stain or snag in a guest's clothing reduces stress and frustration. Include stain removal wipes, safety pins to pin up a fallen hem and a miniature sewing kit to fix that button that fell off.

    First Aid

    • First aid is always necessary, especially if children are around. Include basic items such as antiseptic and bandages. To combat pain include aspirin, non-aspirin pain killers and antacids.

    Women

    • A women's basket should not only include sanitary items such as tampons and pads but also items to touch up her appearance, such as nail polish, or to handle malfunctions by including an extra pair of pantyhose. Don't forget about her hair by including hairspray, elastics and hair pins.

    Appearance

    • Don't make your basket too plain. Place decorative rolled up hand towels around it, and line the inside of the basket with a hand towel. Organize the items into sections, and include enough to accommodate all guests. You can place first-aid on one side, women-specific products next to them around the outside and use the center for basic toiletries that both men and women find useful.

    Basket

    • Use a basket type such as a small wicker basket that you can pick up at a dollar store to save money and damages since being in a bathroom exposes the basket to water or spills from cosmetics and toiletries. You can also look at a craft store for cheap baskets that are large enough to hold all contents you want to place in the basket. Ideally purchase a basket with a handle to allow it to move easily from one location to another.

    Costs

    • Don't break your bank making a basket by overfilling it with more than your guest or guests need. You don't need to spend excessive money by shopping at high-end stores or focus on purchasing name brand items. Use the dollar store to your advantage, especially places where you can find some 2 for $1 items or small kits that have more than one product.
