How to Mount Shelf Brackets on a Concrete Wall

Add light storage and display space on your concrete walls with shelving. Shelving can help add warmth to an otherwise stark industrial-looking concrete wall. To install shelving, mount shelf brackets using masonry screws. Masonry screws require a hole to be drilled into the concrete before installing the screw. The hole is slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw shaft and still allows the thread of the screw to grab into the concrete.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 shelf brackets
  • Level
  • Hammer drill
  • Masonry bit 1/16 inch smaller than diameter of screw shaft
  • Masonry screws
  • Screw gun

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the shelf brackets parallel to each other on the concrete wall in the desired location for the shelf.

    • 2

Place a level across the top of the brackets and adjust the brackets so the shelf will be level. Mark the mounting holes in the brackets onto the concrete wall with a pencil. Set the mounting brackets aside.

    • 3

Drill a hole that is 1/4 inch deeper than the length of the masonry screws, using a hammer drill and masonry bit, at each pencil mark.

    • 4

Hold the brackets in place against the wall. Drive a masonry screw through each mounting hole in the bracket into the concrete wall with a screw gun to mount the brackets to the wall.
