How to Line Cabinets

Lining cabinets can make the difference between ruining and preserving the interior shelving where you place food, glassware and dishware. Contact paper and shelf-liner protect your shelves against water damage, rust, scratches, chips to the wood and stains. You can replace old cabinet lining with new contact paper or shelf-liner to refresh the cabinets in the kitchen, bathroom and closet spaces. Line your cabinets to provide a clean, waterproof surface that eliminates the need to restore cabinet shelving in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove items from the cabinet shelves that you wish to line. Wipe the shelves clean of crumbs and dirt with a wet sponge or paper towel. Dry the cabinets with a paper towel or cloth.

    • 2

Measure the length and width of the interior cabinet shelving with a tape measure. Mark the dimensions of the shelving on the contact paper or shelf-liner with a pencil point or small slit so you know where to cut.

    • 3

Cut the contact paper or shelf-liner with scissors. Remove the adhesive backing from the contact paper or liner. Non-adhesive liners do not have this backing.

    • 4

Line the contact paper or shelf-liner up to the corners of the shelving and lay the corners down flat first. Press the contact paper or liner onto the shelving little by little to create a flat surface without creases.
