How to Get a Magic Marker Refreshed

"Magic Markers" is the trade name for a brand of markers with felt tips. The marker was created by Sidney Rosenthal and was originally constructed from an ink-filled glass bottle that was covered with a wool-felt tip and gained its name because it could "magically" write on any surface. After several craft projects or graded papers, a Magic Marker will begin to dry-out. Save money by inexpensively reviving your Magic Markers for a few more days of use.

Instructions

    • 1

Slip on a pair of rubber gloves and grasp the tip of the Magic Marker with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Gently pull out the felt tip with the pliers and set it onto a paper towel.

    • 2

Stand the Magic Marker tube on its bottom and drip two to three drops of rubbing alcohol into the tube. Use a medicine dropper to more accurately add the alcohol to the tube.

    • 3

Replace the marker's felt tip with the pliers, except this time, turn the marker tip around. This will allow the tip found on the inside of the marker's tube, which is not dried out, to now be on the outside of the tube.

    • 4

Shake the Magic Marker gently and scribble on a piece of scrap paper. Continue to scribble until the Magic Marker begins to write again. Replace the marker's cap to help prevent it from drying out.
