How to Make an Automatic Pet Food Dispenser

As a responsible pet owner, you have to ensure your pets are fed and watered every day. However, because of work and social commitments you may not always be at home to feed your pets on a regular schedule. Although you should never leave some pets, especially dogs, unattended for more than 24 hours, you can leave well behaved pets alone for extended periods of time. You'll need to ensure you leave large dishes of water out, however, and set up an automatic food dispenser so your pet won't go hungry.

Things You'll Need

  • Tin pie plate
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the vertical edge from one-half of the pie plate. A rounded portion of the bottom of the plate should extend beyond the edges.

    • 2

Measure the diameter of the extended rounded portion of the pie plate.

    • 3

Cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket that is 2 inches high and as long as the diameter you measured in Step 2.

    • 4

Fit the rounded edge extending from the pie plate into the hole. Glue the bottom of the edge to the bottom of the bucket with a hot glue gun. Allow the glue to dry for an hour.

    • 5

Fill the bucket with enough pet food to last for the time you'll be away. As your pet eats food in the pie plate, more food will drop from the bucket into the plate.
