How to Make Cardboard Dividers for Drawers

Make your own cardboard dividers for drawers instead of spending money on expensive store-bought dividers. Cardboard dividers separate drawers into sections for organized storage of materials such as clothing, bathroom toiletries, and craft, office or school supplies. Recycle cardboard boxes for a cost-efficient and environmentally conscious project that results in a sorting system within your drawers so you can find items faster.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove materials from your drawers. Clean the drawers with a household cleaner.

    • 2

Measure the width, length, and depth inside your drawers with a tape measure. Write down the measurements, so you can refer to them throughout the project.

    • 3

Line the drawer surface with contact paper for added decoration, if desired, using the length and width measurements.

    • 4

Flatten the cardboard. Place a tape measure vertically on the cardboard. Measure and mark the depth with a pencil.

    • 5

Line the tape measure horizontally on the cardboard with the depth marking. Mark the length of the drawer with a pencil.

    • 6

Use a ruler to trace a straight line that represents the length. Cut along the line with scissors or a box cutter to create the divider that fits the length of the drawer. Repeat the measurement and cutting process to make a divider that fits the width of the drawer.

    • 7

Cut a slit halfway down the midpoints of both the length divider and the width divider. Cover the dividers in contact paper, if desired.

    • 8

Place the length divider from front to back in the drawer. Place the width divider from side to side in the drawer, fitting the slit on the width divider into the slit on the length divider. This creates four sections within the drawer.
