How to Repaint Metallic File Dividers

A fresh paint job can give old metallic file dividers a new life. Metallic file dividers are durable and can withstand repeated daily use, but over time, the paint will become worn or dull. Color coding is an important way to keep your files efficiently organized, so it is important to keep the paint looking sharp on file dividers. You will need to prepare the surface carefully for a lasting, durable finish. It is particularly important to sand and prime the dividers in order for the project to stand up to repeated office use.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the metallic file dividers on a work surface. Sand all of the surfaces of the divider with a fine-grit sanding pad to prepare the surface for primer.

Wipe off the dust left on the dividers from sanding using a tack cloth. Spray an even coat of spray primer on the dividers. Allow the primer to dry for four hours.
