It is important to keep things that have meaning for you and your family. Items you will want to pack include family photo albums, heirlooms, souvenirs and other memorabilia with personal value. Other keepsake items to bring with you include some of your favorite books and knickknacks.
You will need to bring your clothing with you; however, you do not want to bring the entire closet. When packing, go through all of your clothing and get rid of what does not fit you. Also, get rid of anything you have not worn in the past six months, with the exception of seasonal clothing that you may need to bring with you.
To get you started overseas, you will need to pack enough personal toiletries to last you a couple weeks. Items to bring with include shampoo, face lotions and makeup. Do not bring any toiletries that have expired or you have not used in the past few months.
Refill all of your prescriptions before leaving for your move overseas, and have enough to last you at least 30 days. This will give you time to find a doctor and pharmacy that can refill your prescriptions for you. Keep all of your medicines with you in your carry-on during travel overseas.
You may want to bring personal electronics with you during your move that can be used on the plane and while traveling. Personal electronics include laptops, cameras, music players and cell phones. You may need to buy an electrical outlet adapter to match the electricity components of the location to which you are moving.
