Go through each drawer in your desk. Throw away garbage, wrappers, junk mail, and anything you don't need. Set aside important documents, pens, and other usable items on a table.
Install a miniature file system in one of the larger bottom drawers in your desk. These drawers are usually 18 inches long and 12 inches wide and tall. Buy a miniature filing box to go under your desk if, you don't have a deep drawer.
Label tabs for each folder within the drawer or file box. You can include tabs for such things as tax records, birth certificates, photos, outgoing mail, incoming mail, insurance records, and titles. Place sensitive documents inside a locked filing cabinet, if you are concerned about privacy. How you organize your files greatly depends on whether your desk is at your home or office. You can always organize your desk at home differently than the desk at your office.
Place notepads, pens, pencils, erasers, and other writing materials in a top drawer in your desk. You can use a plastic divider tray to separate the pens from the pencils and other items. These trays come with sections for small items such as paper clips, and long or wide sections for pencils or writing pads.
Remove clutter from the top of your desk by throwing things away and putting items in their proper places. Use other drawers in your desk to hold office materials such as ink cartridges and paper.
