How to Install a Door Hanger

Clothes to your left, clothes to your right and an exploding closet to top it all off. To get your clothes off of your bedroom furniture and floor, you can install door hangers. These hangers come in two principle varieties: over-the-door hangers and wall/door-mounted hangers. The first simply fits over top of the door. The other is easy to install and requires no special carpentry skills. With just a couple of common tools, you can be better organized and clutter-free.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door you want to install the hanger onto at a 90-degree angle so it is perpendicular to the door frame.

    • 2

Hold the door hanger up to the door and mark the mounting holes in the hanger on the door with a pencil. Set the door hanger aside.

    • 3

Choose a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the mounting screws that came with the door hanger.

    • 4

Fit the bit into the drill and tighten the chuck.

    • 5

Drill pilot holes in the door through the pencil marks.

    • 6

Hold the door hanger against the door, aligning the mounting holes in the hanger with the pilot holes you drilled in the door.

    • 7

Insert mounting screws into the door hanger and fasten them tightly with a screw gun to finish the installation.
