How to Install a Doorway Pull-Up Bar With No Molding

Many pull-up bars install by hanging them from the casement molding on a door. This allows you to use the pull-up bar without your body hitting the wall while exercising. However, if you do not have doorways with molding where you can install a doorway pull-up bar, you can use a wall-mounted pull-up bar and hang it above the doorway without the molding. This allows you to take advantage of having an open space to work out without fear of running into the wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the studs over the doorway with an electric stud finder. Mark the studs on the wall.

    • 2

Center the pull-up bar over the door so the mounting brackets rest over the center of the studs. Mark the mounting holes on the bracket on the wall.

    • 3

Select the largest-diameter lag bolts that will fit through the mounting holes and select a drill bit that measures half the diameter of the lag bolts.

    • 4

Drill the holes into the studs with the drill bit at the marked locations.

    • 5

Place the pull-up bar over the holes and drive the lag bolts into the wall with a socket and ratchet.
