How to Build a Wine Rack Inside of a Pantry

Make efficient use of your precious pantry space by building a wine rack for those extra bottles of wine. Take one shelf of the pantry and convert it into a wine rack with lengths of PVC pipe. The PVC pipes are stacked in rows horizontally so that you can slide the bottles into the pipe for secure, effective and efficient wine storage. If you don't have any wine on hand, you can pull the assembly off the pantry shelf and place it in a storage area until you stock up again.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Select a shelf in your pantry to locate the wine rack. Measure the width, height and depth of the selected shelf space with a tape measure. The depth measurement is how long you will need to cut each length of pipe. Use the width and height measurements to determine how many rows and columns of 4-inch diameter pipes will fit into the space. This is the number of pipes you will need to cut from the 96-inch lengths.

    • 2

Lay the pipe lengths on the table of a miter saw. Measure and mark the required number of lengths with a tape measure and pencil. Saw each pipe to length with the miter saw.

    • 3

Sand the cut ends of the pipes with a fine-grit sanding pad to get them completely smooth.

    • 4

Stack the pipes onto the shelf to form a grid of rows and columns to test the fit. Remove the pipes once you are sure that they will fit into the space correctly. Apply PVC primer and cement to the edges of each pipe where they join together as you restack them in place on the shelf. Apply the primer with the built-in applicator, then apply the cement over the primer. The PVC will bond on contact.

Slide one wine bottle bottom first into each pipe to store them in the pantry wine rack.
