How to Hook a Cork Board to a Shelf

Cork boards are useful for holding papers, photographs and notes in an office, kitchen or entryway. Many pre-made cork boards feature a frame and mounting hardware attached to the back side of the frame, and unframed cork board can be purchased and cut to size at your local home improvement store. Both types of cork boards are usually hung from a wall, but can be attached to the side of a shelf or other hard surface with a few extra pieces of mounting hardware.

Instructions

  1. Picture Hanging Strips

    • 1

Peel the backing off one side of four no-mess picture hanging strips. Press the strips into each corner of the cork board.

    • 2

Peel the backing off the exposed side of the strips. Press the cork board into the panel of the shelf and hold it tightly for 60 seconds.

    • 3

Pull the cork board away from the strips carefully and allow the adhesive to set for 1 hour. Replace the cork board, pressing each corner to secure the strips.

    Metal Picture Hooks

    • 4

Place a picture hook along the frame of the cork board, making sure the hanging loop extends above the frame.

    • 5

Hammer a round-head nail through each hole and into the frame.

    • 6

Hold the cork board up to the shelf and mark a spot for each mounting hook. Screw the hooks into the marked spots and hang the cork board from the hooks.
