How to Shelve Toys on the Wall

When children have a lot of toys, it is necessary to store them wherever possible to keep a room organized. This includes utilizing the vertical space on walls. Several types of shelving are helpful in keeping toys up off the floor, but use a shelving option best suited for your situation. All types of shelving benefit from having boxes or bins to hide toys to give the room a clean, organized look.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang individual shelves on the wall using L brackets. Choose shelves that are wide so you can store more toys. Set larger toys up on the shelves or fill baskets and bins with smaller toys and place them on the shelves. Clear bins allow you to see what is inside, while baskets are more decorative. Choose this type of shelving if you want to keep some toys out of children's reach.

Install low wall shelves with cubbies that allow children to see their toys. Use bins to contain the small toys. Secure the shelves to the wall so the child can't pull them over. Choose this type of shelving to allow children to easily access their toys as well as put them away.

Add a large wall-to-wall shelving system for a room with a lot of space. Choose a system with cubbies, straight shelves for filling or a combination of the two. Put toys that are used frequently on the lower shelves and other toys higher up. Rotate toys to keep children interested in them. This system works well for a school or resource center that has a lot of toys to organize.
