How to Make a Slim Six-Shelf Rolling Pantry

A rolling pantry is an efficient way to keep your kitchen organized and efficient. Make your own rolling pantry for your kitchen as a do-it-yourself project. Use furniture grade plywood so that the pantry is as durable as it is beautiful. Furniture grade plywood also gives you a wide variety of finishing options from stain to paint, so that you will be able to match your existing woodwork finish. A slim six-shelf rolling pantry consists of a basic rectangular shelved box with casters on the bottom.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the 3/4-by-24-by-72-inch plywood panel on a work surface with the 24-by-72-inch side resting flat. Orient the panel lengthwise, vertically. This is the back of the rolling pantry.

    • 2

Place one 3/4-by-23 1/4-by-72-inch panel on each 72-inch edge of the back with the 3/4-by-72-inch edge flat against the back. These are the sides of the rolling pantry.

    • 3

Position the 3/4-by-22 1/2-by-23 1/4-inch panels between the sides with the 23 1/4-inch edges resting flat against the back. These are the top, bottom and shelves for the rolling pantry. Place one at the top and bottom of the back and sides. Space the six 3/4-by-22 1/2-by- 23 1/4-inch shelf boards between the top and bottom boards at 9 inches apart starting from the bottom edge of the top. This will create a slightly larger shelf space of 12 inches at the bottom of the pantry for larger items.

    • 4

Drive decorative head wood screws through the sides into the side edges of the top, bottom and shelves at each joint. Align each screw along the outside surface of the sides along the center of the width of each top, bottom and shelf joint and drive the screw through the sides into the edges of the shelves with a screw gun. Space the screws every 4 inches. Turn the assembly over while holding the back in place. Drive the decorative head wood screws every 4 to 6 inches through the back into adjoining edges of the sides, top, bottom and shelves with a screw gun.

    • 5

Apply an even coat of clear spray lacquer over the rolling pantry assembly. Allow the coat to dry for 4 hours and apply a second coat. Wait 24 hours after the second coat before handling the assembly.

    • 6

Align one caster in each corner of the bottom of the rolling pantry. Drive the screws that were included with the casters through the mounting holes in the casters into the bottom of the rolling pantry with a screw gun. Stand the rolling pantry upright.
