How to Build a Corner Shoe Shelf

Building a corner shelf for shoes can make use of the often under-used spaces next to doors and in entryways. By constructing a series of simple, attractive shelves, you can greatly improve the look and feel of the entryway, which is often the first view of a home to guests. The basic design of a corner shoe shelf system can be adapted based on need and available space, and stained or painted to match any decorating scheme.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location of the wall studs in the desired corner using the stud finder. Note the boundaries of each stud on the wall using the pencil. The shelves will need either one bracket in the center of the shelf or one on each edge of the shelf, so adapt the plan based on the location of the studs. If using two studs, measure the distance between the studs and arrange the brackets on the shelves the corresponding distance.

    • 2

Rotate the shelf board, set it upside down and arrange the bracket on the board in the correct position based on the location of the wall studs. Predrill the holes through the bracket into the shelf board and connect the brackets to the shelf board using wood screws.

    • 3

Position the assembled shelving unit against the wall in the intended position. Set the carpentry level on top of the shelf and adjust the position until it is level. Mark the location of the bracket holes making sure that the holes are over the wall studs. Predrill the bracket holes and attach the shelf to the wall with the wood screws.

Repeat the process for each additional shelf in the corner shelf shoe system, making sure to leave just the required amount of space for the type of shoe which will be stored on each shelf.
