How to Adjust the Time on an 8-Day Dunhaven 4/4 Westminster Chiming Mantel Clock

Dunhaven antique mantel clocks, like all timepieces in your home, will need adjusting a couple of times each year to account for daylight savings time. The clock might also lose time if the pendulum slows or stops. There are a few important rules to follow when you set the time on your Dunhaven clock so you do not damage the movement. Anyone can make the changes to the clock with the right care knowledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the cover protecting the face of the clock; the cover usually has a latch and a hinge allowing you to open it like a door.

    • 2

Gently turn the minute hand clockwise with your finger. Never force the hand or turn it counterclockwise – you risk seriously damaging the movement.

    • 3

Keep gently turning until the minute hand shows the correct time. You might have to advance the clock 12 hours if you need to make a small adjustment backward in time.

    • 4

Close the glass face cover and wind the clock, if necessary. Wind your clock every five or six days to keep good time.
