How to Make a Handbag Rack

Hang your purses, satchels and handbags with a homemade handbag rack. A handbag rack can be fastened to any wall in your home, including closets, and is used to organize your collection of bags. A handbag rack like this is often simple in design and can be built in minutes with the use of standard carpentry tools. Choose a decorative wood for your handbag rack to accent the style and class of your collection. Oak is often used, as it will look good and be strong enough to last for years of handbag organization.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw two lines across your plywood so they are parallel with the 36-inch edges, spaced 12 inches apart and so each is 6 inches away from each 36-inch edge. Draw four lines that are perpendicular to the first pair so they are spaced 8 inches apart and the two outside lines are 8 inches away from each 24-inch edge.

    • 2

Drill a 3/32-inch hole through the plywood where each of the lines intersect and erase the remaining pencil lines. These holes are pilot holes for your handbag hooks.

    • 3

Screw a decorative hook where you drilled the holes.

Locate studs in the wall where you would like to hang your handbag rack. The light on your stud finder will turn on when you have found a stud. Position your rack against the wall so the 36-inch edges are horizontal. All of the hooks should be facing up so they can hold your handbags. Position your level on top of the 36-inch edge to ensure the rack is parallel with the floor. Screw through the rack and into the studs using two 4-inch screws for each stud.
