# How to Make a Branch Coat Rack
You can add a stylish coat rack to your house, cabin or barn using a tree branch. Branch coat racks have a rustic look because the bark of the wood is left on and the limbs on the branch are used to hold the coats. Branch coat racks only require screws to mount them to the wall and can be built in minutes in a garage or workshop.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Hand saw
- Heavy-grade sandpaper
- Medium-grade sandpaper
- Stud finder
- Level
- Screw gun
- 5-inch wood screws

Measure 6 inches away from the trunk on each limb, and cut each limb so it is 6 inches long. The limbs that you will use to hang coats should be aligned so the coats do not slip off.

Sand down the edges that were cut to avoid snagging on your coats. Use heavy-grade sandpaper first and then medium-grade sandpaper.

Locate studs in the wall where you wish to mount your branch coat rack and position the branch coat rack over the walls so it is horizontal. The limbs on the branch should be perpendicular to the wall or angle up to hold your coats. Screw the 5-inch screws through the branch and into the studs. Use one 5-inch screw for each stud.
