I Need Directions on How to Use a Paper Log Roller

Newspaper log rollers are simple devices that supplement wood for your fireplace and reduce the amount of paper relegated to landfills. As you get more practiced at rolling newspaper logs, you can buy additives at specialty stores that will add either color or scent to the flames when you embed them in layers of the logs.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet both ends of two sheets of newspaper with a little water. Insert one end into the slit in the center metal pipe of your log roller.

    • 2

Use the handle at the side of the roller to roll up the two sheets you have attached to the center post. Roll it up just until several inches of the outer edge hang below the center post.

    • 3

Wet both ends of another two sheets of newspaper. Align one end of the sheet you just wetted with the sheet you have rolled up. The moisture at the ends of both sheets will cause them to stick together when you lay the end of your new sheet on top of the end of the old sheet. Roll this up until only a few inches hang down from the center metal post.

    • 4

Continue wetting the edges of new sheets of newspaper, then attaching them to the old sheet already on the roller and keep rolling until your log is the size you want.

Release the metal pipe from the roller and gently slide the log off the pipe. Tie the log together with three pieces of twine, one in the center and one at each end. Set the log aside to dry for a few weeks and return the metal pipe to the log roller.
