How to Organize Towels in a Drawer

Many lovers of the neat-and-tidy are eager to have everything in its place, including potentially difficult-to-stow towels. Instead of allowing your drawer of towels to become a sea of disarray, set up this space for organizational success. Create an orderly system for stowing these useful items in your kitchen and in doing so, make your space even tidier.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize your towels by type and size. Remove all of your towels from the existing drawer to take stock of your collection and categorize all of them.

    • 2

Fold your towels lengthwise into thirds, creating long-thin strips of towel, then roll them up tightly. By rolling the towels instead of simply folding and stacking them, you make stowing them easier and are able to fit more in the space.

    • 3

Use cardboard to create drawer dividers if you want to house towels of different sizes in the same drawer. For example, if you want to place your hand towels in the front of your drawer and your washcloths in the back, cut a piece of corrugated cardboard to fit across the length of the drawer and position this makeshift divider between the two types of towels. To make this divider more aesthetically pleasing, cover it in an attractive adhesive paper prior to inserting it into your drawer.

Arrange your towels by color for maximum visual appeal. If you have towels running the color spectrum, keep the order of colors in mind, using the old mnemonic Roy G. Biv—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet—and arrange your towels to match this attractive spectrum order.

If your towels become disorganized over time, simply take them all out and start from scratch. When you do, re-fold and re-roll all of the towels, making the drawer once again pristine and tidy.
